Great Value Colour Screen Mobile - 26 Apr 2004

3 out of 3 found this review helpful.

I wanted a flip phone with a colour screen but couldn't afford the likesof Samsung or Nokia. It's come down in price since I bought it (Tesco £65,O2 £80). I bought it on Virgin at £100 but it's still good value. Thebattery life is great. The menus are easy to use and I find similar to myold Nokia 3310. Only gripe I have is that you can't assign tones todifferent numbers to know who is calling. Also, I can't get it unlockedto use an alternative sim card - the Virgin network seems to beunavailable a bit too often for my liking.

Sendo M550 mobile - 18 Mar 2004

The Sendo M550 is for people who want a small, very cool looking, simple to use, flip open, colour, £85-£100 mobile (pay as you go, depending on which company you chose). If you keep your old pay as you go number, you will get between £5 and £50 credit when you register the phone, depending on your call history (with Vodafone, don't know about the others).

THE PHONE: Near enough the size of a credit card, it fits in a pocket wonderfully. It's got a cool sound when you open and close it (optional), a fairly good selection of polyphonic ring tones and good quality colour graphics. It's got a clock, battery indicator and caller id on the front, ideal if you're working and don't want to have to open it. The vibrator alert is strong, the ring volume fairly high. It's easy to text with, good sized buttons (some say difficult to use but I have had no problems). It's a joy to use and look at! For £100, you can't expect camera, bluetooth, movie clips or any of that fancy stuff. I prefer it without as it makes the layout so simple and attractive.

The only real disadvantage I have found is that you can't download new polyphonic ringtones. There are loads of web companies on line offering great polyphonic ringtones, and when you do a websearch they will appear in the results as if you can download their stuff, but BEWARE! Click the compatibility check option on these pages and you'll see that the Sendo M550 is NOT COMPATIBLE. I tried to download one. I got a message confirming the download, but on trying to play it there was no sound, and worse than that I discovered that I couldn't delete the message. Everytime I switched off and on the phone, the same message arrived again. I went to my vodafone shop and they spoke to Sendo but failing to find a solution, they had to give me a new again. We discovered that there is no option to reset the phone, a pity as this may well have solved the problem.

CONCLUSION: I love it, perfect for my simple needs and marvellous to look at and hold!

i recently purchased this little gem and what can i say.
very, very slim profile easily tucks into the jeans pocket, you nearly forget that its there!
extremely light, not like the bulky camera phones that everyone seems to buy these days.
the only gripes are really that there arent enough games, and the front of the phone scratches very easily,as i found out to my cost when i dropped it!
a case is definately recommended!
in all an excellent little phone for the price, reliable but simple, colour screen, easy to use controls who could want more for the price!

Tiny, featherweight, beautifully thought out - 06 Mar 2004

Pros
credit card sized, very light weight, dual screen, extremely clear internal colour screen, stylish, dual band, WAP enabled, brilliantly simple user interface makes Nokia look silly, loud polyphonic ringtones, excellent battery life in my experience, price.

Cons
Keyboard could be better (illumination uneven), no calendar or calculator, you can't lower the volume of the text alert sound.

Overall
If you want a shirt-pocket phone that's a pleasure to use, isn't a Nokia, works on Virgin, looks cool but doesn't cost nearly as much as all those silly camera phones that nobody uses anyway, there isn't a competitor for this. It's a gem.

Sendo m550-great price, almost as great phone - 12 Jan 2004

I got this phone as a christmas present, and was very impressed. It is my first colour phone (i used to own a nokia 3410) and the display looks great, with 4,096 colours to its name (however, it is a bit harder to use at night). The outer screen is great as well, with white characters on a black background, really classy. On the whole, for someone who doesnt know a lot about phones but likes ones that look and feel great, the m550 is a perfect buy.
