5 Reviews for Nokia 1112 Prepay Mobile Phone On Virgin

Excellent Value Phone - 12 Jan 2008

I bought this phone to replace my Nokia 3510i brick. It is excellent for people who want to make phone calls and text people. I have a camera, so don't need one in a phone. It has good texting buttons (slightly raised). Good display (albeit B and W). Long battery life and is very light weight, much lighter than the 3510i. I'm very pleased for the money.

A simple phone for simple tasks. - 09 Nov 2007

If you are looking for a phone which has bluetooth, video capture, pretty flashing colours,a camera and (because of those features) a battery that needs charging every other day then don't give this phone a second glance. However if you want a basic, modest, reliable little handset for those simple thing such as texting and talking then this is for you. It's small, compact, easy to use and the battery seems to last forever between charges. It features an alarm, calculator, currency converter, countless ringing and message tones and a stopwatch among other hidden gems. So,if like myself you dislike keeping up with technology and prefer an uncomplicated, basic phone then you could do a lot worse than investing twenty odd quid for the Nokia 1112.

The Nokia 1112 Re-Visited - 25 Jul 2007

I wrote a glowing review of this phone (elsewhere on the Amazon site) when I had only owned it for about five minutes. I thought it might be an idea to provide an update now that I've become more familiar with it, so here goes... It still gets five stars, but that's only because I can't give it six or seven. Battery life is way beyond anything I've ever had before. I recharged it for the second time since buying it only a few days ago - that's about three weeks from two charges, and the battery still shows 'full' now. I can't speak highly enough of the monochrome display. All colour screens 'wash out' to some extent in bright light, and in reviews I have seen some fairly severe complaints about other Nokia phones in this respect. Not the monochrome 1112. The display is absolutely crystal in all lighting conditions - even bright sunlight (though, admittedly, we haven't seen much of that recently). The standard font is very easy to read, and is still quite large in the smaller of the two sizes. You don't get much on the screen at one go, but what is there is always as clear as you could possibly wish it to be. The keyboard is of the diaphragm type, which at first doesn't feel as though it is all that robust. However, I did my homework on this before purchase (having read complaints about diaphragm keyboards elsewhere) - a work colleague has a Nokia 1100 with the same type of keyboard, and hers shows no deterioration whatsoever after 18 months of continuous use. All you have to do is look after it. So, if you want complaints, here they are. The User Manual that comes with the phone is a bit thin on the ground, and the on-line one is exactly the same. You therefore have to feel your way for some of the features, but I haven't been let down yet. This came to light with an issue about sending the same message to multiple recipients. Nothing at all in the Manual, and I was getting messages saying that sending had failed in some circumstances, even though the apparent failures had already responded to the message ! It took some trial and error to get to the bottom of it. Unlike most other phones I have come across, if you want to send the same message to more than one person and they aren't in a group you have already set, this phone does it but only one at a time. You need to select the first number and send, and then wait for the 'Message Sent' screen before sending to the second person. If you don't wait and send the second one too early, you will get a failure notification when you next switch on even though the message has actually gone. This isn't a fault - it's just the way the phone works, and you need to be familiar with it. The fact that it's different from other phones doesn't mean it's bad. The only other thing is the ring tone - if you choose any volume other than the lowest, the phone automatically sets to 'rising ring', and it seems you can't over-ride it. When it gets to full volume it's as loud as any other phone I've owned, but it takes a little time to get there. That's the end of the gripe list, and they don't take off even a fraction of one star. If all you want to do is communicate i.e. just as you would use your house phone but with the added benefits of texting, this phone is EXCELLENT. If I find a real problem I'll be back, but don't hold your breath...

If you want a phone that costs next to nothing and will be used for just phone calls and texting, this is tremendous value. No bells and whistles but for me,that's a positive.Reliability is a given from Nokia, this phone looks good and is very light. The phone lacks a quality feel but it's nitpicking at this price.Recommended

Good basic phone - 12 Mar 2007

Have had this phone for a month and enjoyed using it - it is very basic compared to most phones on the market nowadays but has a monochrome screen with bright white background, polyphonic ringtones and all standard features that you would expect - SMS, phone book etc.

The phone itself is reasonably stylish, with a good solid keypad, black and white plastic casing with silver highlights. It feels pleasantly weighty and certainly seems to be indestructible.

The display itself is a little simplistic with large fonts and icons, but the menu system is intuitive and features such as a "talking clock" that tells the time when you hold the * button would make this a phone ideally suited to an older person. Battery life is good too - with normal usage it will easily last 3 days without needing to be recharged.

All in all for less than £[...] it really is excellent value if you want a simple phone or just want to keep it in a glove compartment for emergencies.
