GD87 the Good and bad - 15 Jun 2007

The GD87 from Panasonic, was the best of the 2 camera-phone Pioneers.
Early versions of software - pre A22 had a problem whereby if the datastore was full, it could overwrite the bootcode and when you turn on, gives Sim Error.
The main problem with the Orange version, was that in late 2003 Orange began enabling 3G basestations. The identity of these sites were passed to the GD87 in the System Information messages from the GSM network. GD87 had been designed before the outline for these info messages had been released, and handled them as 'errors' A number of 'errors' causes the phone to reset its software to try and rectify the situation. The X70 also used the base code block from GD87 and suffered accordingly. Tough on panasonic, as these were pretty good products otherwise, and an example for software coders on how NOT to handle unknown software messages!!

A very good phone in my opinion - 17 Oct 2004

I think the other guy's phone must have been faulty. I never had any trouble with my Panasonic GD87 and NEVER switched off and then on again when writing a text, maybe he pressed the wrong buttons.

The camera is GREAT, the resolution of the screen is GREAT, the two screens are GREAT, the ringtone composer is GREAT. All in all it's a worthwhile phone to have.

I thoroughly recommend you purchase one, unless you can find some reason not to.

What they don't tell you! - 18 May 2004

On the whole a good phone, camera could be better. BUT it has a little problem when sending text, it switches itself off and on again and loses the text completely, it's a problem both Orange and Panasonic know about but chooses not to tell the customer about, buyer beware.

User friendly phone with a fantastic camera - 19 Nov 2003

This phone really took my surprise, having never used a Panasonic handset before, but I was pleasantly surprised by the well designed, user friendly features. It comes with a very good built in camera for a phone, which by far is it best selling point over other camera phones on the market. The pictures come out much more clearer, with zoom functionality and the option to edit the pictures taken. I took some pictures with it and was really amazed by the quality. The buttons are well designed for text addicts and it comes with some quite cool polyphonic ring tone as standard. Plus it weighs at a mere 83g!

I give this phone a big thumbs up because it’s very sleek and stylish and in my opinion, one of the best looking flip phones on the market. I think it’s just about the right size too, because if like me you loose very small phones but don't like carrying a big bag to accommodate an equally big phone, then the size is just right.

Fantastic - 02 Sep 2003

This is a fantastic phone with all you could ask for and more!
the camera and colour screen give the user a maximum feeling of wealth, its vast amount of memory also means you dont need worry about deleting all those messages. The text attatchement also provides the cheapest possible way to communiccate with 10 messages only costing the price of one and all this on a pre=pay phone! It fails to get the 5th star however as it is quite large even when folded up.
