good mobile - 31 Aug 2007

It's a struggle to think of things that have been left out by other reviewers, but I would like to add a little.
Free Nokia Software
The mobile is limited to 512 MB card so when compared to 'SonyEricson' media mobiles this may see little. But with the free Nokia software- you need to buy the DKU2 cable -is really capable and allows excellent backup options and optimisation of how your media files can be arranged. To maximize the access performance, it's best to have 8 or less files per folder. Any more than this then the access to the files is really slow.
Camera
It may seem that 1.3 MB is too little, but I have put stills on the highest quality the camera can produce, and its surprisingly good on a 28" TV. Please note that sometimes the white balance can be off, so pictures can be too blue or too orange. Its best to close and reopen the mobile when this happens.
Please note that the mobile has pictures viewer with a digital zoom facility, so you can gather a better impression of the picture than you would consider possible whilst still in the mobile.
The video image-to is honest- when you move the camera is blocky, but that's due to the algorithm and processor used when it's captured. If your signal to your provider is intermittent, then in some way the capture / playing of your movie is of poorer quality. It could be if the signal strength is low, then the files relating to rendering the movie / platback quality are withheld? If you play the video on third-part viewers via a computer improves this performance. The low -level video ability is only really any good when the camera is stationary.
MP3 /radio
When used with the headset-in the box- the sound quality of MP3 is really clear, but a bit limited in bass content. The radio clarity is dependent on the strength of the incoming signal, but it can be superb with the 3-d sound-scape and clarity can be then first-rate.
I have managed to sample a 1970's analogue recording of family members and with other available software created a MP3 file that I transferred on to the mobile. This MP3 file shows great clarity when played on the Nokia, but when played can shows the occasional very short dropout.
Data Transfer
I have a notebook with various options but I have found the simplest data transfer method between the 6230i is high-speed infrared. Its great and has no wires so is fine for the odd 10 mob files.
Internal web browser software
The Nokia has an improved www browser that tries valiantly to cope with the great range of Website available. With your mobile service they will attempt to interpret the website you visit and substitute a version that will work with your mobile. If the website is too extensive it does not work.
Please consider that you can be charged £1 per Meg so it's not for long web sessions every day, as the resulting bill can add up! For email on the device I use the yahoo service, but you must register with yahoo via a computer beforehand.
Texting
Some mobiles have tiny buttons, but this one has great size for adult fingers. The nice thing that there are options for you to type larger text files of up to 3 k each. This is fine for semi-detailed reminders of stuff you need to work with, but it's a grind to make lots of files this size due to the limiting input method.
Phone lists of contacts
This is fantastic with any amount of information can be added up to the limit. You can prioritise, have photos, and add text addresses. I find putting all my details of car insurance, R.A.C breakdown cover membership details in case the worst happens is a real boon. This was help when the car battery failed unexpectedly and I had all my relevant details available!
Summary. It's a good mobile if you wish sound performance but are not willing to pay silly money. Please note it was best buy in 2005.
Nokia's PERFECTION the 6230i! - 27 Jul 2007

This phone is brilliant.
It has an amazing design,
Has all the necessary features
Is not massively over priced
Remains good quality even after time
Takes memory cards
Plays videos and has bluetooth
I have successfully download and watche several films on my nokia 6230i, the quality is not amazing but is satisfactory (3gp videos are very small in size so an entire film would easily fit a 128mb MMC memory card)
I read someone called it ugly, that comment disgusts me, i find this the most attractive phone there is yet. The buttons and ergonomics of this phone is perfect, the buttons stand out and are comfertable, easy to speed type when text messaging.
This phone has a music player, so plays MP3 tracks perfectly (with the memory card option you can have loads of tracks! (MMC only)
The gaming capabilities are fantastic, Java 3d games...
However the memory that applications can hold is limited, so you cannot download the latest big games. However they do still make good small java games.
This phone is great when your bored. I always play games on my nokia 6230i when on the tube or in a boring lesson. The games i currently have and reccomend is fifa 2007, worms forts, scarface, supermario..(and more)
The inbuilt games are golf which is excellant quality, and a car game which i have deleted almost immediately.
When talking about phones you tend to hear about ringtones, so ok ill discuss rigntones briefly.
This phone is an MP3 player, with audio recording capabilities, so you can get your favourite song/music and set it as your ringtone!
The preset ringtones are great, Ancient sounds alot like the prison break theme and was present before prison break came out.
Carribean is my favourite ringtone.
YOU CAN NEVER GET BORED OF THIS PHONE it has changable themes so you feel like your using a new phone!
You can have changable covers (expensive though)
Like all nokias its great for speed typing, has a good calander function and alarm clock, it has a countdown timer and all the other standard features.
This phone has bluetooth, a 1.3mp camera (not amazing in darkness and quality is reduced significantly in night mode) a not so good video camera (unless your outdoors or its bright) the video camera can film for ages if you have a memory card and with the bluetooth you can easily transfer data to a computer or laptop with a bluetooth usb or equivelant.
Im also happy with the fact that nokia decided to keep infrared and a radio on this phone, these are both great tools.
The main selling points about this phone is the attractive design, tis gorgeous compared to ALL OTHER PHONES.
the shape and design especially the keypad is perfect, i have previously had a 3100, and 3200 and deffinetly recomend nokia. The 6230i is my best phone so far and i will be sad to part it, i dont think i will ever see a phone that is as ergonomically friendly and attractive as the nokia 6230i.
All perpose perfection!
HOWEVER ...lol nope just kidding there is nothing really bad about this phone the battery life is meant to be outstanding, the voice quality over the phone is not amazing but that is to save battery life and it can be changed.
Loudspeaker, wallet, video playing, bluetooth, infrared, radio, video recording,
This phone has all the accessories built in and this does not slow its performance down 1 bit.
this phone is GLORY
1 thing is when i bought mine (second hand of ebay for 40 pound) the infrared screen was missing, i dont know if this is easily broken or not, otherwise phone is amazing!)
A great little phone! - 06 May 2007

The Nokia 6230i is a lovely little phone. Ok, it's not necessarily the most stylish in terms of design, but what it lacks on looks it more than makes up for on charm, ease of use and reliability.
I have had this phone for over 8 months now and have had no problems at all with it. The camera has 1.2 megapixels which is sufficient for outdoor snaps of reasonable quality. It plays music (which sounds pretty good through the headset, although rather tinny through the built in speaker), records video and sound too.
It's a nice little phone. Not so small and light as some, but then if it was I would have probably lost it by now.
I would highly recommend this phone to anyone. It's good reputation is well deserved and it certainly has the thumbs up from me!
Nokia 6230i - For me a new one - 05 Oct 2006

Orange network, can't go wrong, pay as you go.
I have had various phones from 1994, all but one a Nokia.
This current one (new for me) is great, fits my hands free cradle, [...]it was cheaper and easier to buy a phone that fitted.
I would recommend it to anyone wanting the best of the best, with easy to handle menu(s)
Very Nice Phone - 05 Aug 2006

I was given this phone by my work, to use for business. I have a larger Nokia N70 as my personal phone.
I have to say that although this phone is not as flash as others, its really really nice.
It simply does the things you want it to do very very well.
Good sound, good connectivity to PC, bluetooth, works well abroad, is a very nice size, its fits into portfolio and business folders very well. Easy to set to meeting mode. And the battery lasts for days and days.
It probably does much more, but I use it for the basics. If you intend using it for photos and surfing the web then I would say, its not the phone for you as the screen is small.
If you want a business phone then its ideal.
